To give you a better sense of why choosing the right wheels for you skateboard is important there are a couple of things to bear in mind. First of all, do you ride street or vert? Depending on which, the durometer of the wheel you choose comes into play.
The durometer is a measure of its resistance to penetration. There are of course several categories but the rule of thumb is that higher the number rating of the wheel you choose, the harder it will be. Harder is better suited to vert riding, whereas a less resistant wheel is suited to street riding because this offers a little more ‘road feel’.
If you switch between the two, then a compromise is always the best solution, so somewhere between 97A and 90A will likely work out. If you’re strictly vert, go 97A and up. Those who prefer a longboard and the simple joy of cruising pavements should look for a much lower durometer number, somewhere from the mid-70s to the mid-80s will ensure that when you roll over those cracks and bumps in the road, the board will absorb most of the vibrations.
When it comes to the size of the wheels you invest in, it is all about your personal preferences. If you’re a tall person you might be better suited to larger wheels, vice versa for those who are of shorter stature, however, it all depends on the way you ride.
Our online store will save you both time and money. Order exactly what you want and we will get the new wheels out to you within 3-10 days – 2-3 working days for those located in Queensland.
